As you may have noticed, there is a harvester on the lake! Here's a quick update on vegetation harvesting...
In September 2018, the Lake Association Board solicited bids from three contractors for vegetation harvesting. As a result of the bidding process, the Association Board partnered with
Solitude Lake Management to conduct limited vegetation removal in the lake. This work is currently ongoing and should be completed by October 20th.
Northeast Aquatic Research, the firm conducting the lake assessment, has evaluated vegetative conditions in the lake and has identified several priority areas that Solitude will target with their harvester. The purpose of the harvesting is remove large amounts of vegetative biomass from the lake and not to clip/remove lily pad leaves for aesthetic purposes. Northeast Aquatic has indicated that this approach will result in "more bang for our buck". Removing the biomass now will result in less vegetation decomposition and less sedimentation within these priority areas.
The Board will work with Northeast Aquatic to assess the effectiveness of the harvesting effort following its completion.
