Lake Tibet Beach Update

A brief update on the Lake Tibet Beach Rehab Project...

In late September, a beach rehabilitation project was begun to remove weeds from the beach and create a more delineated zone for new beach sand, all in an effort to beautify the beach area.

One of our Lake Association Board members volunteered to do a significant amount of the work associated with the project, from supply coordination to the actual work itself. Other residents have been volunteering as well to move the project along. The work has been coordinated with the Town of Kent.

Unfortunately, some inclement weather has slowed progress but we thank all of the residents of the Lake Tibet community for your continued patience.

A more detailed update will be presented at the Lake Tibet Meeting on October 28th. Hope to see you there!

2018 Lake Vegetation Harvesting Update

As you may have noticed, there is a harvester on the lake! Here's a quick update on vegetation harvesting...

In September 2018, the Lake Association Board solicited bids from three contractors for vegetation harvesting. As a result of the bidding process, the Association Board partnered with Solitude Lake Management to conduct limited vegetation removal in the lake. This work is currently ongoing and should be completed by  October 20th.

Northeast Aquatic Research, the firm conducting the lake assessment, has evaluated vegetative conditions in the lake and has identified several priority areas that Solitude will target with their harvester. The purpose of the harvesting is remove large amounts of vegetative biomass from the lake and not to clip/remove lily pad leaves for aesthetic purposes. Northeast Aquatic has indicated that this approach will result in "more bang for our buck". Removing the biomass now will result in less vegetation decomposition and less sedimentation within these priority areas.

The Board will work with Northeast Aquatic to assess the effectiveness of the harvesting effort following its completion.

If you would like to find out more, please attend our Fall Meeting on October 28th at 10:00am at the Kent Fire House or email the Board at laketibetny@gmail.com!

2018 Lake Assessment

During the summer of 2018, the Lake Tibet Association partnered with Northeast Aquatic Research, to conduct a lake assessment to evaluate current lake conditions, identify factors contributing to the vegetation growth within the lake, and to provide recommendations for future lake management.

The findings of the 2018 lake assessment are currently being finalized. A representative from Northeast Aquatic Research will be in attendance at the October 28th meeting to present the findings of the assessment to date.

Please attend the meeting on October 28th to find out more!
